What is Growing Home?

Growing Home has been helping people to learn career centered skills while farming since 2002. This farm-based training program gives people paid on-the-job experience and work-readiness training while providing healthy food options at significantly reduced prices to the community of Englewood, an underserved community on the south side of Chicago.

How has Growing Home impacted the community of Englewood?

In addition to on-the-job training and experience, Growing Home provides the support to overcome issues like criminal records, medical needs, child-care, and housing. Over the years, they have made a significant difference in the lives of hundreds of workers.

“With the help of Growing Home’s job training program, I earned a living while making progress toward my goals and building a strong foundation for success. Since graduating from the Growing Home program, I now have a full-time job. I have my forklift certification and my food service license. My credit score went way up. I am renting my own apartment, and in January I’ll have a car and will be starting school. I’m even hoping to share my story by writing a book someday,” Allen’s Story

Community Involvement

Growing Home offers tours as well as interactive learning experiences for schools and youth groups of all ages.

If you’d like to support Growing Home in their efforts to improve the quality of life for our underserved communities, you can volunteer your time or make a donation.
